“Running of the Gourds” Gourd Festival

The 15th Annual “Running of the Gourds” Gourd Festival is about to happen in Casa Grande, Arizona!  If you’ve never been to a gourd festival and you have any  interest in what people are doing with gourds, come to the festival February 9-11th.  Many of our members will be there taking classes, jurying gourds, buying from the numerous vendors and generally having a fun time talking gourds.  To find out more, please visit Wuertz Running of the Gourds Festival.  The Wuertz family works hard to put on this festival and you’ll see that it’s one of the best in the country!

Making cats out of gourds couldn’t have been more fun!  I hope you enjoy these and maybe even chuckle a bit at the whimsey.

3rd Day of Classes

There are so many wonderful instructors at the Wuertz Festival, and Cindy and Adrienne took classes from two of them–Bonnie Gibson and Rosario Wilke! Here are the two unfinished gourds that we worked on today:We’re so fortunate to be able to attend this festival, especially when fellow crafters talk about how friendly and big this festival is compared to gourd festivals elsewhere. Tomorrow is the last day of the festival and classes. We can’t wait to see what we’ll be creating!

2nd Day of Classes

Today’s classes were both fun  (Feline Frenzy, taught by Brenda Blackwelder) and challenging ( Skeletonized Prickly Pear Vase taught by Sue Brogdon). Once again, we learned some wonderful things to do with gourds. The festival opened the doors to a very excited and enthusiastic crowd of people; some went immediately to see the  Arizona Gourd Society’s Judged Show, others to the building that housed over 100 gourd artists and vendors! Exhausting yet exhilarating!

First Day of Classes

 Today, we took our 1st two classes at the Weurtz Gourd Festival. Pictured here are gourds from classes that were taught by Bonnie Gibson and Don Weeke. These gourds aren’t quite finished. Wow! If you like gourds, and everything related to gourds, stop by the Pinal County Fairgrounds this weekend! Tomorrow, everyone will be able to see all of the juried gourds which never cease to amaze and inspire us! Can’t wait!

Wuertz 14th Annual “Running of the Gourds” Gourd Festival

Fall In To Winter 2016

Yes, it’s that time of year again — our fall weather is turning in to winter here in Colorado! I’m so envious of the ‘snow birds’, leaving for warmer climates just in time to avoid the first snow.  Several years ago, when it was horribly cold outside, I created this gourd and entitled it “Fall In To Winter”. Can you see the leaf colors with a bit of white suggesting snow?  It took forever to finish as I had to wrap all of the cord with variegated ribbon before securing it to the gourd — I think the effort was worth it!  Here’s hoping that everyone is staying inspired and getting ready to stay warm (if you can’t be a snow bird) with a wonderful, creative project. For me, this fall/winter, I’m making gourd masks…..stay tuned.   Happy Holidays!  Adrienne

Country Christmas Bazaar November 12 and 13, 2016

The holidays are right around the corner and this bazaar is the perfect venue for shopping! With over 400 vendors, you’re sure to find the perfect gifts.  Please join us along with the Longs Peak Gourd Artists on Sat and Sun, November 12 and 13, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Adams County Regional Park and Fairgrounds, 9755 Henderson Road (same as 124th Ave), Brighton.  This show is a benefit for the Adams County Historical Society.  We have a lot of newly decorated gourds and we hope you’ll come by to see us!

Yes, another great year at the 13th annual  Wuertz Gourd Festival in Casa Grande, Arizona!
